Doug surprised me with a trip to New York for my 60th birthday. We went with a tour group led by Mrs. Shoctor of the Citedal Theatre. She is in her 80s but full of vim and vigor. We joined 30 other people from Edmonton and Calgary. Our tour included a stay at a lovely hotel 3 blocks from Central Park, a tour of the city, seeing 4 Tony Award winning plays, enjoying the Rockettes, an evening dinner in a French restaurant and a guided tour of the Metropolitan Museum and the Harlem Boys Choir in Harlem. Doug and I walked everywhere and enjoyed touring Grand Central Station, Ground Zero, Rockerfeller Square, going to the top of the Empire State Building and touring around Central Park in a horse and carriage. We enjoyed Times Square in the evening and an evening meal and luncheon in the famous Tavern on the Green in Central Park. It was an action packed 5 days. Our plays were excellent, our favorite being Billy Elliot. It was a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday and our first trip to New York. We loved the city and hope to come back some day.
